Notre-Dame de Paris - Opéra de Paris Ballet Cert TBC
Director: Roland Petit
Cast: Amandine Abisson (Esmeralda), Hugo Marchand (Quasimodo), Pablo Legasa (Frollo), Antonio Conforti (Phoebus), the Paris Opera Corps de Ballet and the Paris Opera Orchestra.
From Victor Hugo's rich novel, Roland Petit builds a vivid, theatrical and intense fresco. Between Esmeralda in love with Captain Phoebus, Frollo tormented by desire and the hunchback Quasimodo, a tragic story unfolds before a fickle crowd that swings between joy and cruelty.
Combining neoclassical dance and the spirit of music hall, Roland Petit surrounded himself with the leading creative talents of his time: Maurice Jarre for the music, René Allio for the sets and Yves Saint Laurent for the costumes, which he wanted "as colourful as the stained glass windows of a cathedral".
